Drag anywhere to draw a rectangle — the selection adopts the first clue it crosses and takes its colour. Or tap a clue, then the far corner. Every rectangle must match its clue’s shape and size; tap a placed one to remove it.

If a patch has a number, its rectangle must be exactly that size.

LinkedIn Patches

Split the grid into rectangles — every patch must match its clue.

About Patches

Patches is the rectangle-partition puzzle made popular by the LinkedIn daily games lineup: split the whole grid into rectangular patches so that every patch contains exactly one clue. The clue icon fixes the shape — square, tall or wide — and its number fixes the exact size.

Ludingo brings the LinkedIn Patches formula with unlimited boards: thousands of generated puzzles with a provably unique solution across three difficulties, plus a daily challenge, share-a-link races and leaderboards.

Rules
  • Split the grid into rectangles — every cell must belong to exactly one patch.
  • Each rectangle must contain exactly one clue cell.
  • The icon sets the shape: square, tall (portrait) or wide (landscape); the dashed icon allows any shape.
  • If the clue shows a number, the rectangle must cover exactly that many cells.

Strategy

Start with the largest numbers — big rectangles have very few legal positions.

Count in factors: a 9 with a square icon can only be 3×3; a tall 6 is 2×3 or 1×6 upright.

Watch the gaps: a cell only one patch can reach decides that patch’s direction.

Corners and edges constrain shapes hard — resolve them before the open middle.

Tips

  • Drag for speed, or tap two opposite corners for precision on small screens.
  • A red patch breaks its clue — tap it to remove it and rethink.
  • Clues without a number are free in size but still bound by their shape icon.
  • Stuck? The hint places one correct patch from the unique solution.

FAQ

What is the Patches puzzle?

A rectangle-splitting logic game from the LinkedIn daily games family: divide the grid into rectangles so each one contains exactly one clue and matches its shape and size.

Is this the same as LinkedIn Patches?

The rules follow the LinkedIn Patches formula — but here you get unlimited boards, three difficulties and a daily challenge instead of one puzzle a day. Ludingo is not affiliated with LinkedIn.

Does every board have a unique solution?

Yes. The generator only accepts boards that our solver proves to have exactly one valid tiling — no guessing required.

What do the icons on the clues mean?

They constrain the shape: a square icon means width equals height, tall means higher than wide, wide means wider than high, and the dashed icon allows any rectangle.

How do the difficulty levels differ?

Easy is a 5×5 grid, Medium 6×6 and Hard 7×7 — with more patches, hidden numbers and trickier shape mixes as you go up.

Can I race friends?

Yes — solve a board and share the link: your friend gets the exact same board with your time to beat. Every puzzle has a stable id like easy_42.
