- Split the grid into rectangles — every cell must belong to exactly one patch.

- The icon sets the shape: square, tall (portrait) or wide (landscape); the dashed icon allows any shape.
- If the clue shows a number, the rectangle must cover exactly that many cells.
Strategy
Start with the largest numbers — big rectangles have very few legal positions.
Count in factors: a 9 with a square icon can only be 3×3; a tall 6 is 2×3 or 1×6 upright.
Watch the gaps: a cell only one patch can reach decides that patch’s direction.
Corners and edges constrain shapes hard — resolve them before the open middle.
